DP World’s Port of Sokhna has reached a major milestone in 2025 by handling one million containers, underscoring its growing significance as a key gateway for trade in the Middle East and North Africa region.

The achievement reflects robust cargo flows through the Egyptian Red Sea port, which has been expanding its capacity and connectivity to global shipping networks. The performance highlights Sokhna’s rising role in facilitating international trade amid broader investments in port infrastructure and logistics development across Egypt.

Operational improvements and new terminal developments at the port, including the commencement of trial operations at a major container terminal, are expected to further boost throughput and enhance service reliability.

Industry observers see the one-million-container milestone as a testament to Sokhna’s strategic position on key east–west trade routes and its contribution to Egypt’s ambitions to become a regional maritime hub.
