The Andhra Pradesh Government has given its go-ahead to the AP Maritime Board to take measures to set up a greenfield port and shipbuilding cluster at Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district under the Shipbuilding Development Scheme of the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways.

In addition to acquiring 2,000 acres to establish the cluster, the board will set up a 50:50 special purpose vehicle (SPV) with the Vizag Port Trust to meet the scheme’s guidelines. It will have an equal number of representatives from the State Government and Vizag Port Trust, according to a Government Order issued on Friday.

The board will transfer 2,000 acres to the SPV to facilitate the establishment of the cluster. The board will seek permissions and select a partner to develop the shipyard.

In a separate GO, the State Government has allowed the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL) to acquire 418.14 acres at Damavaram village for the development of Dagadarthi Greenfield Airport for ₹54.36 crore.
