The Port of Koper has recorded its highest-ever annual container throughput, handling 1.27 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), marking a significant milestone in the port’s operational history.

The record performance reflects sustained growth in containerised trade flows through the Adriatic gateway, supported by expanded terminal capacity, improved hinterland connectivity, and enhanced logistics services. Port officials attributed the achievement to steady demand from Central and Eastern European markets, along with strengthened cooperation with shipping lines and rail operators.

Over the past year, the port has continued investments in terminal modernisation, yard optimisation, and digital solutions to streamline cargo handling processes. Increased rail connectivity has also played a key role, with a substantial share of container traffic moving via rail to inland destinations, reinforcing the port’s position as a multimodal hub.

Industry analysts note that the 1.27 million TEU milestone underscores Koper’s growing competitiveness among North Adriatic ports, particularly as supply chains seek efficient and reliable alternatives in Europe.

Building on this momentum, port authorities aim to further expand capacity, improve sustainability measures, and enhance service reliability to support future growth in container volumes.
