Soya IT Marine Solutions has been awarded the contract to upgrade the communication solutions for 41 ocean-going vessels. The solution includes new satellite communication equipment, efficient data management, continuous service and 24/7 support. The client is Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

The installations are carried out entirely through remote management, making the process both time-efficient and cost-effective. The solution is based on four new connectivity systems that ensure stable connections in all waters and regions. Antennas and hardware are shipped to the vessels in any port, brought onboard and installed by the crew – with no downtime. The delivery also includes support agreements for all vessels. The project started in April 2025 and is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

“Our solution is designed to be as simple and flexible as possible, without compromising on security. The installation requires no operational downtime, which saves both time and money for our customers. With the new communication solution, we are securing future digital development and opening up entirely new opportunities for real-time data transfer. It also enables further expansion with additional cybersecurity solutions – an area where we see a growing need among our customers,” says Thomas Bergefall, Vice President Group IS/IT at Soya Group.

“For us, it is crucial that our vessels are digitally ready – not only to meet today’s requirements, but to stay ahead. With the new solution, we get a robust, redundant connection that improves the communication between ship and shore. This strengthens our operational capabilities and improves the working environment for the crew,” says Adriana Briseno, Fleet Connectivity Engineer, Marine Operations Management at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.

The assignment was preceded by two successful proof-of-concept tests in October 2024, demonstrating a redundant and significantly improved connectivity solution. The high data transmission capacity enables substantially better Wi-Fi for the crew, which in turn improves both the working environment and quality of life onboard. At the same time, the faster connection enables real-time data transfer between ship and shore, as well as more efficient use of sensor data to optimize operations and decision-making.

With this new assignment, Soya IT Marine Solutions now delivers maritime IT services to around 70 vessels, the majority of which have the company’s IT environment onboard.

Soya IT Marine Solutions is part of Soya Group and provides IT solutions specifically tailored for shipowners and ship managers. Soya IT Marine Solutions takes responsibility for the entire onboard IT environment, including equipment, system integrations, cybersecurity, satellite communications and support services.
