A new coastal highway project aimed at strengthening port connectivity in Gujarat has been launched, linking key maritime hubs across the districts of Surat and Bharuch. The 18-km corridor is expected to streamline cargo movement between industrial clusters and nearby ports, reducing travel time and easing pressure on existing road networks.

The project is designed to enhance logistics efficiency for exporters and importers operating in South Gujarat’s rapidly expanding industrial belt. By creating a direct coastal route, authorities aim to facilitate smoother transport of containers, bulk cargo and petrochemical products from manufacturing zones to port terminals.

Officials said the highway will play a crucial role in supporting regional trade by improving last-mile connectivity for port-bound cargo. The corridor is also expected to strengthen integration between road transport infrastructure and maritime logistics facilities serving the Gulf of Khambhat region.

Industry stakeholders believe the new road link will help lower transportation costs, reduce congestion on inland routes and support the growth of Gujarat’s port-led development strategy. Once completed, the coastal highway is expected to become an important logistics artery connecting industrial areas with maritime gateways in the Surat–Bharuch region.
