Chinese carrier Ningbo Ocean Shipping is preparing to place a fresh order for feeder container vessels as part of its ongoing fleet expansion strategy aimed at strengthening regional connectivity.

The planned order is expected to focus on modern, fuel-efficient feeder boxships designed to serve short- and medium-haul routes across Asia. The move comes amid rising demand for intra-Asia trade and the need for flexible capacity to support mainline services.

Industry sources indicate that the new vessels will incorporate advanced design features to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, aligning with tightening environmental regulations and the company’s sustainability goals.

By expanding its feeder fleet, Ningbo Ocean Shipping aims to enhance service frequency, improve port coverage, and optimize cargo flows between smaller ports and major transshipment hubs.

The development reflects a broader trend among regional carriers investing in feeder capacity to support evolving global shipping networks and growing trade volumes within Asia.
