The Salem Rail Division has reported a 13% increase in freight loading, reflecting improved operational efficiency and growing demand for rail-based cargo movement in the region.

According to railway officials, the rise in freight volumes was driven by higher transportation of key commodities such as coal, cement, fertilizers, and industrial goods. Enhanced coordination with industries and better wagon availability also contributed to the growth.

The division has undertaken several measures to boost freight performance, including streamlining loading processes, improving terminal infrastructure, and optimizing train operations. These efforts have helped reduce turnaround times and improve service reliability for customers.

Officials highlighted that the increase aligns with Indian Railways’ broader strategy to enhance its share in the freight market by offering cost-effective and sustainable logistics solutions compared to road transport.

With continued focus on infrastructure upgrades and customer engagement, the Salem Rail Division is expected to maintain its growth momentum and play a key role in supporting regional industrial activity.
