Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) completed a major ownership transition in 2025, transferring control of the family-owned shipping giant to Diego Aponte and Alexa Aponte as part of a long-planned generational leadership shift.

The move marks a new chapter for the world’s largest container carrier, with the next generation of the Aponte family taking a greater role in steering the company’s global shipping, logistics, cruise, and terminal operations.

Industry observers view the transition as strategically significant, as MSC continues expanding its presence across container shipping, inland logistics, air cargo, and port infrastructure while navigating changing trade flows and market volatility.

Founded by Gianluigi Aponte, MSC has grown into one of the most influential privately held transport groups worldwide, and the handover is expected to ensure continuity in its long-term family-led business model.
