Colombo West International Terminal has welcomed four new purpose-built electric cranes, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing expansion and modernization efforts at the Port of Colombo.

The arrival of the cranes is expected to strengthen cargo handling capacity, improve operational efficiency, and support faster vessel turnaround times at one of South Asia’s key maritime gateways.

CWIT stated that the investment reflects its continued focus on building future-ready port infrastructure while advancing sustainable operations through the deployment of energy-efficient electric equipment.

The terminal continues to play a growing role in enhancing regional trade connectivity and reinforcing Sri Lanka’s position as a major maritime and logistics hub in the Indian Ocean region.

Backed by ongoing foreign direct investment and infrastructure development, CWIT aims to deliver smarter, greener, and more efficient terminal operations to meet rising global trade demands.
