Air Passengers Association of Travel Agents has urged authorities to establish a dedicated cargo terminal at Bhogapuram International Airport to strengthen air freight operations and support regional trade and exports.

The industry body said the proposed cargo facility would help improve handling of perishable goods, pharmaceuticals, seafood, agricultural products and other time-sensitive shipments from Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring regions. According to APATA, a specialised cargo terminal would enhance logistics efficiency and reduce dependence on distant airports for freight movement.

The association noted that Bhogapuram Airport has the potential to emerge as a major aviation and logistics hub due to its strategic location and planned international connectivity. It said dedicated cargo infrastructure would encourage exporters, freight forwarders and logistics companies to expand operations in the region.

APATA also highlighted the growing demand for faster and more efficient air cargo services amid rising exports and e-commerce activity. Industry stakeholders believe the development of modern warehousing, cold chain facilities and cargo handling systems at the airport could improve supply chain connectivity and generate new business opportunities.

The organisation called on the government and airport developers to prioritise cargo infrastructure as part of the airport’s long-term expansion strategy, stating that a dedicated terminal would contribute to regional economic growth and strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s trade competitiveness.
