Kamarajar Port Limited marked a major milestone in sustainable maritime logistics with the berthing of MV Höegh Aurora, the world’s largest and most environmentally friendly Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC), at General Cargo Berth-1 on May 24, 2026.

Operated by Höegh Autoliners, the Aurora-class lead vessel represents a new benchmark in green RORO shipping, combining ultra-large cargo capacity with next-generation low-emission technologies.

MV Höegh Aurora features a capacity of 9,100 CEU, making it the world’s largest PCTC vessel. Measuring 199.9 metres in length with 14 cargo decks, the vessel is equipped with a 6.5-metre ramp capable of handling high and heavy cargo.

Designed for future-ready sustainable operations, the vessel is powered by LNG dual-fuel propulsion and is prepared for future conversion to ammonia and methanol fuels. It is also EV-ready across all decks, supported by five liftable decks, while 1,500 square metres of solar panels and shore power capability further enhance its environmental performance.

The successful port call highlights Kamarajar Port’s capability to accommodate the world’s largest RORO vessels and reinforces its ambition to emerge as a leading LNG bunkering hub while advancing sustainable maritime operations.
