The Port of Montreal recorded a 2% year-on-year increase in cargo volumes during the first half of 2026, reflecting steady trade activity and the resilience of Canada’s supply chain despite ongoing global economic uncertainties.

The port handled higher volumes across several cargo segments, supported by stable import demand, export activity, and continued growth in containerized trade. Its strategic position as a key gateway for Eastern Canada and North American markets helped sustain cargo throughput during the six-month period.

Port officials attributed the positive performance to efficient terminal operations, strong collaboration with shipping lines and logistics partners, and continued investments in infrastructure aimed at improving cargo handling capacity and operational reliability.

The Port of Montreal remains an important hub for international trade, connecting Canadian businesses with markets in Europe, Asia, and the Americas through an extensive network of maritime and inland transport services. Ongoing modernization projects and digital initiatives are expected to further strengthen the port’s competitiveness and service quality.

Looking ahead, the port expects cargo volumes to remain stable in the second half of the year, supported by seasonal shipping demand, continued infrastructure development, and efforts to enhance supply chain efficiency for customers and trading partners.
