India and Uzbekistan have agreed to significantly deepen strategic cooperation in digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), outer space and regional transport logistics following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Tashkent.
According to a joint statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) following Modi’s meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the two countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral engagement across key technology, infrastructure and connectivity sectors.
Technology and AI Cooperation
The leaders welcomed the successful operation of the first IT Park in Tashkent, established in 2019 on the Indian model with active support from Software Technology Parks of India (STPI).
They agreed to further strengthen partnerships among technology parks, companies, startups and educational institutions in both countries, creating opportunities for greater exchange of expertise, innovation and investment.
Building on understandings reached during the India AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi in February 2026, India and Uzbekistan also agreed to expand cooperation in high technologies and digital transformation.
The two sides will focus on developing and advancing safe, secure and trustworthy AI systems, including through the exchange of experience and best practices. The partnership is aimed at using AI to support sustainable economic growth, innovation-led development and solutions to societal challenges.
Expanded Cooperation in Space
India and Uzbekistan also reaffirmed their interest in expanding practical cooperation in the exploration and peaceful use of outer space.
The proposed areas of collaboration include space applications, the exchange of scientific data and capacity-building through joint workshops and training programmes.
The initiative is expected to provide a framework for greater interaction between scientific and technical institutions from the two countries.
Focus on Transport and Logistics Connectivity
Transport and logistics connectivity emerged as another key area of bilateral cooperation, with both countries committing to strengthen multimodal transport routes and logistics corridors.
The leaders reaffirmed their intention to enhance connectivity between India and Uzbekistan and create favourable conditions for the seamless movement of goods across the region.
The joint statement also highlighted efforts to restore freight transportation with the objective of reducing transportation costs. India and Uzbekistan plan to expand cooperation between relevant authorities through the exchange of expertise in road construction using advanced technologies.
The two countries will also explore opportunities for joint projects focused on the reconstruction and modernisation of road infrastructure.
Green Public Transport
As part of their broader infrastructure cooperation, India and Uzbekistan agreed to explore environmentally friendly and energy-efficient solutions for Uzbekistan’s public transport sector.
The two sides will examine opportunities for implementing joint projects aimed at developing greener urban mobility systems, supporting both energy efficiency and sustainable transport.
The agreements mark a broadening of India-Uzbekistan economic and strategic engagement, extending cooperation beyond traditional sectors to emerging technologies, space applications and modern multimodal logistics infrastructure.
