Paradip Port Authority has achieved a significant maritime milestone with the successful berthing of MV Mineral Kwangyang, its first-ever Capesize vessel with a draft of 16.5 metres, at Western Dock-1 (WD-1).
The 292-metre-long vessel arrived carrying 152,702 metric tonnes of coking coal from Hay Point, Australia. The successful handling of the deep-draft Capesize vessel marks a major step forward in Paradip Port’s capabilities to accommodate larger vessels and handle high-volume cargo efficiently.
The achievement highlights the port’s growing infrastructure and operational capabilities, particularly at WD-1, and strengthens its position as a key gateway for bulk cargo and India’s maritime trade.
Shri Susanta Kumar Purohit, IRSEE, Chairperson, Paradip Port Authority, congratulated the Team PPA and Team JPPL for their efforts in accomplishing the landmark operation.
The successful berthing of MV Mineral Kwangyang is expected to further enhance Paradip Port’s competitiveness in handling large bulk carriers and contribute to more efficient and cost-effective cargo movement.
