KMTC has temporarily suspended the acceptance of certain special cargo shipments to Japan during the country’s Silver Week holiday period, citing operational constraints associated with the holiday schedule.
The temporary measure affects special cargo bookings and is expected to apply around the Silver Week period, when Japan experiences a series of public holidays that can affect port, terminal and inland logistics operations.
Special cargo generally requires additional handling, documentation or equipment compared with standard containerised shipments. Temporary restrictions can therefore help carriers manage vessel planning, terminal operations and cargo-handling resources during periods of reduced working capacity.
Shippers planning to move special cargo to Japanese ports during the holiday period are advised to check KMTC’s booking conditions and confirm acceptance before arranging shipments.
The suspension is expected to be temporary, with normal acceptance of affected cargo types resuming after the Silver Week period, subject to KMTC’s operational schedule.
