Maersk has warned customers of potential port congestion and vessel delays across parts of East Asia as typhoon activity threatens to disrupt maritime operations.

Severe weather can lead to temporary port closures, suspended pilotage and cargo-handling restrictions, affecting vessel arrivals and departures. Such interruptions can create backlogs that continue even after ports resume normal operations.

Maersk said the disruption could affect schedules across the region, with vessels potentially facing longer waiting times and changes to planned port calls. The carrier is monitoring weather conditions and port operations and may adjust schedules where necessary.

Typhoon-related disruptions can also affect inland logistics, including trucking and rail connections, potentially slowing the movement of containers to and from terminals.

The latest warning highlights the vulnerability of regional supply chains to extreme weather events. East Asia is home to some of the world’s busiest container ports and serves as a major manufacturing and export hub for global markets.

Shippers are being advised to monitor vessel schedules and allow additional time for cargo movements as weather conditions evolve. Further operational updates are expected as ports assess the impact of the storms.
