Hapag-Lloyd has introduced a Letter of Indemnity (LOI) requirement for selected import shipments into Morocco, updating documentation procedures for affected cargo.

The new requirement applies to specific import shipments and is intended to ensure that the necessary documentation is available before cargo is released or handled at the destination.

An LOI is a formal document in which a party provides an undertaking or indemnity to a carrier or another logistics stakeholder in connection with a particular shipment or operational request. Such documentation can be required where additional assurances are needed before certain cargo-related procedures can be completed.

Importers and their logistics partners handling affected shipments into Morocco will need to review the applicable requirements and ensure that the required LOI is provided in the prescribed form and within the relevant timeframe.

The change highlights the importance of accurate documentation in international container shipping, where local customs procedures, carrier requirements and destination-specific rules can vary between markets and cargo types.

Hapag-Lloyd’s update is expected to require additional coordination among importers, consignees, freight forwarders and other parties involved in shipments to Morocco. Failure to meet documentation requirements could potentially affect cargo processing or delivery arrangements.

Shippers moving cargo into Morocco are therefore advised to check the carrier’s latest instructions and confirm whether their shipments fall under the LOI requirement before cargo arrival.

The measure forms part of ongoing carrier updates to destination procedures as shipping lines adapt documentation and operational requirements across their global networks.
