Railways will develop a new railway network at an estimated cost of Rs 1,000 crore to streamline coal transportation to the Chausa Thermal Power Plant in Bihar’s Buxar district. The project is aimed at ensuring a smoother and more reliable supply of coal while easing congestion on the busy Buxar–Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) railway section.
A key component of the project is the construction of a six-line crossing station at Pavni-Kamarpur, located between Buxar and Chausa. The facility will accommodate coal-laden freight trains and improve the movement of goods along the corridor.
The project also includes a dedicated Rail-over-Rail (ROR) flyover for coal freight trains, providing a separate route to transport coal to the power plant without adding pressure on the main railway corridor. The infrastructure is expected to improve operational flexibility and facilitate smoother movement of passenger trains as well.
Currently functioning as an Intermediate Block Post (IBP), Pavni-Kamarpur will be upgraded into a full-fledged crossing station with six railway lines, comprising Up and Down main lines, a common loop line, a Down loop line and technical sidings.
The station will have three platforms, each measuring between 590 and 600 metres. A station building measuring 40 metres by eight metres and two foot overbridges will also be constructed to facilitate passenger movement.
Additional works include extending the Up platform at Chausa railway station by approximately 300 metres and constructing an underpass near level crossing gate No. 74. An overbridge or underpass is also planned at level crossings 76 and 77.
More than a dozen existing bridges will be strengthened and widened to accommodate the additional railway lines.
The engineering plans for the project have received technical and administrative approval from the Danapur Railway Division and SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL). The entire project cost, including land acquisition expenses, will be borne by STPL.
Saraswati Chandra, Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway, confirmed on Sunday that Pavni-Kamarpur halt would be developed into a full-fledged six-line station to support coal transportation to the Chausa power plant.
The project is expected to strengthen rail infrastructure in the region, ensure dependable coal supplies to the thermal power plant and support industrial development through improved freight connectivity.
Mitesh Yadav, HR Head of SJVN, said the project would contribute to more efficient coal transportation and enhance regional connectivity.
