The government has named Sushil Kumar Singh, a joint secretary looking after ports/ PPP and PHRD in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways as the Chairperson of Deendayal Port Authority (formerly Kandla Port).
Sushil Singh is an Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineering (IRSME) officer of 1993 batch – one of the group ‘A’ central engineering services of the Indian Railways. He succeeds S K Mehta who stepped down from the post in April after a five-year term.
Singh’s appointment will run through 31 January 2027 or until further orders, according to an order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC.
“In view of the declaration of results to the Lok Sabha, if the officer is on election-related duty, he may kindly be relieved after due clearance from the Election Commission of India to take up his new assignment,” the 30 May ACC order said.
As a joint secretary in the Ministry, Singh looked after port modernization, port automation, green ports and smart ports initiatives, mechanization of port infrastructure and public-private-partnership (PPP) in the 12 major ports owned by the government.
He was also involved in implementing policy and technology initiatives to improve Ease of Doing Business and improve the visibility of the supply chain.
During his time in the Indian Railways, Singh handled train operations, rolling stock maintenance, rolling stock design and manufacturing projects.
