The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has confirmed that CMA CGM and Ocean Network Express (ONE) transported more containers through Singapore in the first five months of 2024 than in the same period in 2023.

According to MPA, total container volumes handled in Singapore in the first five months of 2024 were 16.90 million TEU.

This is a 7.7 per cent increase in container volumes over the same time previous year.

This news comes more than a week after MPA reported significant increases in container volumes and ‘bunching’ of container vessel arrivals in recent months.

The demand for capacity remains high as container lines work closely with PSA, MPA, the Ministry of Transport, and the unions to increase their container volumes via Singapore.

In May, the port authority completed propulsion and manoeuvrability trials of an ammonia-powered vessel.
