Liebherr Container Cranes announced the successful completion of a significant upgrade project at Port Liberty (formerly Global Container Terminals) in New York.
This project involved enhancing three out of four Liebherr ship-to-shore container cranes (STS) by increasing lift height and extending the boom tip, with work on the fourth crane set to finish soon.
The entire process was captured on camera and the compelling footage is now available on Liebherr Maritime’s social media platforms.
Liebherr’s team of skilled engineers achieved an 8.6-meter lift height increase and extended the outreach by 5 meters for the STS cranes. These substantial improvements enable the cranes to efficiently handle larger vessels, enhancing Port Liberty’s service capabilities for its customers.
Utilizing Liebherr’s innovative jacking system, the lift height extension was completed swiftly within several weeks. This patented system utilizes the crane’s end carriage as a stable base for jacking, eliminating the need for additional equipment and ensuring minimal disruption to terminal operations.
