Air France KLM Martinair Cargo (AFKLMP Cargo) is moving to automate its perishables centre at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (Paris-CDG), aiming to improve cargo-handling efficiency and strengthen the management of temperature-sensitive shipments.

The automation initiative is expected to support the faster and more efficient processing of perishable goods, including fresh produce, seafood, flowers and other time-sensitive cargo. These shipments require careful handling, reliable temperature control and minimal delays to maintain product quality throughout the supply chain.

Paris-CDG is a major European air cargo hub, connecting international markets and supporting the movement of high-value and time-critical shipments. Improving perishables-handling capabilities is particularly important as global demand for fresh food and other temperature-sensitive products continues to grow.

Automation can help streamline cargo movement, improve operational consistency and reduce manual handling. It can also support better use of warehouse space and help cargo operators manage fluctuations in shipment volumes during peak seasons.

For exporters, importers and freight forwarders, more efficient perishables operations could improve shipment reliability and strengthen access to international markets. The development also highlights the growing role of specialised infrastructure and technology in the global air cargo industry.

The initiative forms part of the broader push across air freight networks to modernise cargo facilities and improve cold-chain performance.
