Airbus is preparing for the first flight of its A350F freighter on September 29, marking a major milestone in the development of its next-generation widebody cargo aircraft.
The A350F is being developed as a dedicated freighter based on the A350 platform. It is designed to combine long-range capability with improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared with previous-generation freighters.
The aircraft will feature a large main-deck cargo door and a reinforced fuselage and floor structure to support heavy and oversized freight. Airbus is targeting the aircraft at the growing global air cargo market, including express, general freight and specialised cargo operations.
The first flight will allow Airbus to begin flight-test activities and gather performance data ahead of subsequent certification work. The programme will involve testing the aircraft’s systems, handling characteristics and operational performance under different flight conditions.
Airbus has secured orders and commitments for the A350F from several major cargo operators and leasing companies, reflecting interest in replacing older widebody freighters as airlines seek more efficient aircraft.
The A350F is expected to enter service later this decade, subject to the completion of certification and production milestones.
The first flight on September 29 will therefore represent an important step towards bringing Airbus’ new-generation freighter into commercial cargo operations.
