Kalmar and APM Terminals (APMT) have continued their partnership with a substantial contract for straddle carrier fleet modernisation at MedPort Tangier.

Kalmar has partnered with APMT to upgrade 32 of its straddle carriers at MedPort Tangier, Morocco. The order was placed in Kalmar’s Q1 2025 order intake.

The modernisation process is set to commence in Q2 2025 and finish by the end of Q1 2026.

APMT MedPort Tangier, which opened in 2019, is a transshipment facility located inside the Tanger Med 2 port complex.

The terminal services the major maritime routes connecting Europe, Africa, the Americas, and the Far East, and it complements the APMT Tangier operation at the Tanger Med 1 port.

The modernisation comprises a midlife refurbishment programme delivered under Kalmar Modernisation Services offering.

The programme will extend the operational service life of the equipment, enhancing safety and optimising performance, productivity and reliability.

Keld Pedersen, Managing Director, West Med Hub Terminals, APMT, said: “Our partnership with Kalmar at MedPort Tangier has gone from strength to strength, and our Kalmar straddle carrier fleet has played a key role in the advancement of the terminal. The comprehensive modernisation programme supports our commitment to continuous improvement and world-class customer service.”

Thomas Malmborg, President, Kalmar Services, stated: “Reliability, safety and productivity are the hallmarks of Kalmar equipment, and this modernisation programme will ensure that the straddle carrier fleet continues to add value for APMT for many years to come.”

Recently, Kalmar announced the official start of sales of the Kalmar Ottawa Electric Terminal Tractor (OT2 EV) at the Technology & Maintenance Council’s 2025 Annual Meeting & Transportation Technology Exhibition in Nashville, Tennessee, US.
