Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone subsidiary Ocean Sparkle Limited has signed a shipbuilding agreement with Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited for the construction of four 70-tonne bollard pull ASD tugboats, further strengthening its marine operations and supporting the growth of India’s domestic shipbuilding industry.
The agreement marks another step in APSEZ’s ongoing efforts to enhance port infrastructure and operational efficiency across its network. The new ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) tugboats will be deployed to support safer and more efficient vessel handling, berthing, and harbour operations at ports managed by the company.
The latest order also reflects APSEZ’s increasing focus on expanding its marine fleet capabilities while contributing to the government’s vision of promoting indigenous shipbuilding under the broader maritime development agenda.
With five tugboat orders placed within the first two months of FY26-27, APSEZ continues to accelerate capacity expansion in its marine services segment. The company said the orders will not only strengthen operational readiness across its ports but also provide a boost to local shipyards and the wider maritime manufacturing ecosystem.
The partnership between Ocean Sparkle and Udupi Cochin Shipyard is expected to generate further momentum for India’s shipbuilding sector as the country aims to position itself as a global maritime and shipbuilding hub.
