The Cartagena Port Group has reached a historic milestone, handling 4 million TEUs in a single year for the first time in its 32-year history.

The milestone was reached on 25 December and sets a record for both Colombia and the wider Latin American and Caribbean region.
Data from ECLAC confirms that the port is the region’s busiest container terminal, highlighting its role in national trade and international logistics networks.
Over the year, the terminals handled more than 3,500 containerships and 477,316 external trucks, maintaining Colombia’s position as a leading exporter of containers.
The port’s operational performance has been recognised internationally. In 2024, it ranked third most efficient globally and first in the Americas according to the World Bank and Standard & Poor’s Container Port Performance Index.
Beyond cargo operations, the Cartagena Port Group contributes to social and economic development through the Cartagena Port Foundation, which has supported more than 165,000 people over 20 years.
The terminals have also received recognition from the Great Place to Work Institute, the Caribbean Shipping Association, and UNCTAD, alongside certifications for energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
Recently, the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) marked a key milestone in the construction of the Multipurpose Dock of Puerto Armuelles, which has now reached 63 per cent physical completion.
