CMA CGM has officially registered its new LNG-powered container ship, Pantheon, under the French flag, reinforcing the group’s commitment to sustainable shipping and France’s maritime industry. The 24,212-TEU ultra-large container vessel is among the world’s biggest LNG-fuelled boxships and will strengthen the carrier’s long-haul fleet.
The addition of Pantheon forms part of CMA CGM’s fleet modernisation strategy, which focuses on deploying vessels powered by lower-emission alternative fuels. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) enables significant reductions in sulphur oxide, nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions while lowering carbon dioxide emissions compared with conventional marine fuels.
Flying the French flag also reflects the company’s continued support for France’s maritime sector, including compliance with national labour standards and maritime regulations. The vessel is expected to operate on major Asia–Europe trade routes, where demand for high-capacity, fuel-efficient container ships remains strong.
CMA CGM continues to invest heavily in next-generation vessels powered by LNG, biomethane and other alternative fuels as it pursues its long-term decarbonisation goals. The company is also expanding its use of renewable fuels and energy-efficient technologies to reduce the environmental footprint of global shipping operations.
The registration of Pantheon marks another milestone in CMA CGM’s sustainability journey, strengthening both its global fleet and its commitment to cleaner, more efficient maritime transport.
