Port City Colombo (PCC), Sri Lanka’s services Special Economic Zone (SEZ), is seeking to attract greater investment from Indian companies, particularly in the logistics, information technology (IT) and hospitality sectors, as it aims to secure an additional $3 billion in investments from across the globe by 2030.

Located near Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, the Port City is being developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) between the Sri Lankan Government and CHEC Port City Colombo, a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company.

Harsha Amarasekera PC, Chairman of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, said the zone offers significant opportunities for Indian businesses in IT, tourism and logistics, while healthcare is emerging as another promising investment area.

He noted that India could strengthen its position as a regional healthcare hub by establishing a presence in Port City Colombo. He also highlighted the growing importance of Colombo Port’s transshipment operations, which are expected to strengthen regional connectivity and create opportunities for Indian companies to establish regional headquarters and logistics hubs within the SEZ.

Describing the investment opportunities as complementary to India’s economic and trade interests, Amarasekera said closer business participation from India could help strengthen regional supply chains and expand commercial cooperation between the two countries.
