In a landmark move toward sustainable logistics and greener transportation, Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR) — a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways — has signed two strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Adani Cement, one of India’s leading cement manufacturers.
The agreements mark a major step forward in introducing rail-based movement of bulk cement using specialized tank containers, a first-of-its-kind large-scale initiative in the country’s logistics landscape.
Under the MoUs, CONCOR will deploy dedicated container rakes to facilitate seamless, efficient, and reliable transportation of bulk cement across key rail corridors. Leveraging Indian Railways’ extensive network and CONCOR’s multimodal logistics expertise, the collaboration aims to shift a significant share of cement transport from road to rail, thereby enhancing efficiency and sustainability in India’s cement supply chain.
The initiative promises multiple benefits — from substantial reductions in carbon emissions and support toward India’s net-zero goals, to lower logistics costs and greater supply chain resilience for Adani Cement. Moreover, it aligns with the objectives of the National Logistics Policy, promoting green freight solutions across industrial sectors.
This collaboration between CONCOR and Adani Cement is expected to set a new benchmark in eco-friendly bulk logistics, paving the way for similar rail-based sustainable transport models in other industries.
