COSCO Shipping Lines and sister carrier OOCL have expanded their joint Mediterranean–West Africa Express (MWAX) service by adding two vessels, increasing the frequency of sailings to one departure every 10 days.
The enhanced service is designed to strengthen connectivity between key Mediterranean gateways and major West African markets, providing shippers with more frequent vessel options and improved access to the region.
The revised MWAX rotation will cover Valencia, Algeciras, Dakar, Tema and Abidjan, before returning to Dakar and Valencia:
Valencia → Algeciras → Dakar → Tema → Abidjan → Dakar → Valencia
Dakar will therefore receive two calls within the rotation, supporting connectivity between Senegal and the wider Mediterranean and West African network.
The addition of two vessels and the move to a 10-day sailing frequency represents an expansion of the carriers’ joint presence on the trade. The service links major Spanish ports with West African hubs including Tema in Ghana and Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire, while also maintaining a call at Dakar.
The expanded MWAX service is expected to give exporters and importers greater scheduling flexibility on Mediterranean–West Africa routes and strengthen COSCO and OOCL’s coverage of the growing regional container trade.
