Croatia has inaugurated the Rijeka Container Terminal, a landmark €600 million investment designed to transform the country’s largest port into a key regional logistics hub, according to port authorities.
Developed jointly by APM Terminals and ENNA Group, the Rijeka Gateway Terminal marks the largest private investment in Croatia’s logistics infrastructure to date. The terminal itself represents over €380 million, while associated road and rail enhancements in and around the port raise the total investment to €600 million.
Operational since September 2025, the terminal features a 400-meter quay and an annual handling capacity of 650,000 TEUs, with expansion plans to 680 meters and more than one million TEUs. Once fully operational, it will employ around 300 people.
Equipped with remotely operated cranes, renewable energy systems, and Croatia’s first private 5G industrial network, the facility positions Rijeka at the forefront of modern maritime logistics in the Adriatic region.
“Geographically, we are excellently positioned — closer to the Far East and the heart of Europe,” said Bostjan Napast, CEO of ENNA Group. “It is time to restore Rijeka’s position among the ports of the northern Adriatic and put it back on the global logistics map.”
The Rijeka Gateway is expected to enhance trade connectivity between Central Europe and global markets, strengthening Croatia’s role in international supply chains.
