Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal (DBGT) has achieved a significant operational milestone with the successful handling of M.V. MSC SILVIA, the widest vessel ever to berth at the terminal, reinforcing its capability to accommodate larger mainline container ships.
The ad hoc vessel berthed at DBGT on 19 July 2026, setting a new terminal record with a beam (width) of 48.20 metres. The vessel measures 300 metres in Length Overall (LOA) and has a carrying capacity of 9,411 TEUs, highlighting DBGT’s growing readiness to handle larger container vessels on global trade routes.
Arriving from Port of Onne, Nigeria, the call underscores the terminal’s expanding role in supporting international shipping networks and facilitating efficient cargo movement through Tuticorin.
DBGT attributed the achievement to the continued support and strategic vision of the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA), whose infrastructure development initiatives have strengthened the port’s capability to handle next-generation container vessels and enhance its position as a key maritime gateway.
The terminal also expressed its appreciation to MSC Line for its continued confidence in DBGT by deploying mainline vessels through the facility, a move expected to further improve regional connectivity and trade opportunities.
