Dakshin Bharath Gateway Terminals (DBGT) has successfully executed its maiden direct call from VOC Port to Europe by MSC, the world’s largest mainline operator. The vessel M. V. MSC TAERIM berthed on 18 Sep 2024 at 0440 hours, marking the commencement of direct vessel calls to Europe from Tuticorin. A volume of 511 TEUs were handled at DBGT, VOC Port before the vessel sailed 1220 hours on the same day.

    Port rotation (and transit time):

    Chittagong, Bangladesh > DBGT, Tuticorin (18 Sep) > Sines, Portugal (16 Oct / 28 days) > Valencia, Spain (19 Oct / 31 days) > Bejaia, Algeria (20 Oct / 32 days)

By handling direct Europe call, DBGT management embarked on a new chapter of global connectivity and economic expansion in the region. Whilst acknowledging this being a one-off ad hoc caller, DBGT management strongly feels that it’s just not a logistic achievement for DBGT but also signifies DBGT’s growing prominence in the international shipping industry. The Garments, Coir and Textile industries in Southern India will greatly benefit from direct access to global markets via DBGT.

Other milestones achieved by DBGT in 2024:

    • 3000th Vessel Handled: DBGT proudly achieved the significant milestone of handling its 3000th vessel M. V. MSC AGATA II on 18 Jun 2024.
    • 4 Million TEUs: DBGT achieved major milestone by handling 4 million TEUs on 19 Jul 2024 since inception.
    • The Second-Longest Vessel – M.V. MSC ROBERTA V: DBGT proudly welcomed the arrival of M.V. MSC ROBERTA V, the second-longest vessel ever to dock at DBGT, VOC Port, Tuticorin, with a length of 294.5 meters on 16 Aug 2024.
