The Vadodara division of the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) is working continuously to establish freight terminals at railway stations to facilitate industrial freight transportation. Mr. Manish Gupta, the DFCCIL General Manager recently said that Makarpura, Varedia, New Sanjali, New Gothan, and New Udhana stations were selected as potential locations for these terminals, and the tendering process is already in motion.
Furthermore, the Vadodara unit is actively pursuing the establishment of a green corridor spanning from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Terminal (JNPT) in Mumbai to Dadri, with a focus on maximizing the use of solar energy at various stations to achieve energy neutrality.
A trial run of a freight train is also underway on a newly electrified railway section connecting Gothangam and Makarpura, covering a 115km stretch. It is anticipated that this year the route will be able to facilitate the regular movement of double-stack goods covering Surat, Bharuch, and Vadodara stations.
As a result of this string of achievements, the Vadodara unit was honored with the Running Efficiency Shield for the year 2022-23, acknowledging their commitment to the completion of work on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
These initiatives include innovative approaches such as using geocell systems in bridge approaches, novel methods for bridge protection, and slope protection measures, among others. The Vadodara unit’s dedication to enhancing freight transportation infrastructure is pivotal to the region’s economic development.
