The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded a ₹2,360 crore contract for the construction of a key expressway link aimed at improving connectivity to Vadhavan Port in Maharashtra.

The project is expected to play a crucial role in supporting the development of Vadhavan Port, which is being positioned as one of India’s largest upcoming deep-draft ports. Enhanced road connectivity will facilitate faster movement of cargo between the port and major industrial and consumption centers, reducing transit times and logistics costs.

According to officials, the expressway link will integrate with existing national highway networks, ensuring seamless connectivity for container and bulk cargo traffic. The development is also expected to ease congestion on current routes and improve overall efficiency in cargo evacuation from the port.

Vadhavan Port is a strategically significant infrastructure project aimed at boosting India’s maritime capacity and handling large volumes of container traffic. The addition of a dedicated expressway link is seen as a critical step in creating a robust hinterland connectivity framework to support future cargo growth.

Industry experts note that improved last-mile connectivity remains a key factor in the success of major port projects. The new expressway is likely to enhance the port’s attractiveness for global shipping lines and logistics players by ensuring reliable and efficient cargo movement.

The project aligns with the government’s broader focus on infrastructure-led growth, with continued investments in highways, ports, and multimodal logistics aimed at strengthening India’s position in global trade networks.
