FedEx has strengthened its healthcare logistics capabilities in the Middle East after its Dubai facility received the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics (CEIV Pharma) certification.
The certification recognises compliance with internationally recognised standards for handling and transporting pharmaceutical products, including temperature-sensitive medicines that require strict storage and distribution controls.
The certification followed an assessment against more than 280 criteria, covering operational procedures, storage facilities, equipment, quality management systems and regulatory compliance. The hub is equipped with a 170-square-metre temperature-controlled storage area for sensitive healthcare shipments, alongside advanced automation and high-speed security screening.
Located at Dubai World Central (DWC), the 57,000-square-metre facility serves as FedEx’s regional hub for the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa. Its strategic position supports connections between pharmaceutical manufacturers, healthcare providers and markets across these regions.
FedEx said the certification strengthens its ability to handle critical healthcare shipments while maintaining product integrity throughout transportation. The company also uses its FedEx Surround monitoring solution and SenseAware sensor technology to provide near-real-time information on shipment location, temperature and environmental conditions.
With the addition of the Dubai hub, FedEx continues to expand its certified pharmaceutical logistics network, supporting demand for reliable cold-chain transportation as healthcare supply chains become increasingly specialised.
