In a significant step towards promoting sports, wellness, and holistic development in India’s maritime sector, Ganpat University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping), Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Government of India, to establish and conduct the National Maritime Games.

The MoU creates a collaborative framework for organizing a biennial national sporting event dedicated to stakeholders across all verticals of the maritime industry. The initiative aims to encourage physical fitness, sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, teamwork, and overall well-being within the maritime community.

Under the agreement, Ganpat University has been designated as the host institution for the National Maritime Games, while DG Shipping will extend patronage, policy guidance, and regulatory oversight, ensuring alignment with national maritime objectives and standards.

The National Maritime Games initiative is closely aligned with key national visions and missions, including Maritime India Vision 2030, Maritime Amrit Kaal 2047, and the Khelo India mission. It reinforces the government’s commitment to nurturing a strong, healthy, and future-ready maritime workforce by integrating sports and wellness into professional development.

Officials from both institutions highlighted that the Games will serve as a unifying platform for seafarers, maritime students, professionals, and institutions across the country, fostering camaraderie and a spirit of healthy competition while strengthening the maritime ecosystem.

The signing of this MoU marks a milestone in India’s maritime journey, positioning the National Maritime Games as a flagship initiative that blends sports, national vision, and sectoral development on a nationwide scale.
