India’s gem and jewellery exports recorded a strong recovery in June, reversing the weakness seen in previous months as demand from key international markets improved. The rebound was driven by higher shipments of cut and polished diamonds, gold jewellery and studded jewellery, supported by renewed buying activity and easing inventory levels in major export destinations.
Industry stakeholders attributed the improved performance to stronger order inflows from the United States, the Middle East and select Asian markets, along with increased participation in international trade fairs and buyer-seller meets. Exporters also benefited from improved supply chain conditions and greater stability in precious metal prices compared with earlier in the year.
Despite the encouraging June performance, the industry remains cautious about the outlook for the coming months amid global economic uncertainties, fluctuating gold prices and geopolitical tensions that could influence consumer demand. Export promotion bodies expect continued momentum if festive and holiday season orders from key overseas markets remain strong.
The June rebound offers a positive signal for India’s gem and jewellery sector, which remains one of the country’s leading foreign exchange earners and a significant contributor to merchandise exports. Industry participants are hopeful that sustained international demand and supportive government initiatives will help maintain export growth in the months ahead.
