Gopalpur Port, deepest all-weather port in the State of Odisha with round-the-clock operations has achieved a significant operational milestone by successfully handling its first ever thermal coal export shipment, marking its entry into the energy cargo segment. The vessel MV propel Wealth operated by SEIL Energy India Limited berthed at the port. Approximately 60,000 MT of thermal coal was loaded within 24 hours, marking the highest-ever single vessel loading at Gopalpur Port.

This is the first time Gopalpur Port has handled thermal coal for export, reflecting the port’s growing capability in managing diversified cargo types. To commemorate the occasion, crew members of the vessel, Senior officials from the Port and other terminal staff gathers at the berth to welcome the inaugural ship.

This achievement comes less than a year after Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) acquired Gopalpur Port in September 2024, reinforcing the Adani Group’s commitment to expanding its east coast presence and enhancing multimodal cargo capabilities across India.

Commenting on the achievement, the Business Head, Gopalpur Port, said the successful thermal coal loading at MV Propel Wealth is a proud moment for Gopalpur Port and a testament to our capabilities to handle diverse cargo. We are thankful to the SEIL Energy India Ltd for choosing Gopalpur Port as a logistic partner. This successful handling demonstrates the port’s enhanced readiness, backed by robust infrastructure, upgraded material handling system and a commitment to high-efficiency turnaround operations. Gopalpur Port has been consistently expanding its cargo profile including iron ore, limestone, alumina, cement and now thermal coal.

Located strategically on the east coast between Paradip and Vishakhapatnam, Gopalpur Port is well-positioned to serve key industrial hubs in Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand with efficient multimodal connectivity. With a capacity of 20 million tonne per annum and three operational berths, the Port efficiently handle large cape size vessels with drafts up to 14.5 meters.
