The Great Eastern Shipping Company (GE Shipping) has moved to expand its tanker fleet through the acquisition of a secondhand medium-range (MR) product tanker, reinforcing its strategy of modernizing and growing its presence in the product tanker segment. The vessel, built in South Korea in 2013 and carrying a deadweight capacity of approximately 51,565 tonnes, is expected to join the company’s fleet during FY26.

The acquisition will be funded entirely through internal accruals, highlighting GE Shipping’s strong balance sheet and continued confidence in the tanker market. The move comes as the company pursues fleet expansion opportunities amid sustained demand for refined petroleum product transportation.

GE Shipping has been actively reshaping its fleet portfolio through a combination of vessel acquisitions and strategic disposals. Company records show several recent product tanker purchases and sales as part of its ongoing fleet renewal programme, aimed at improving operational efficiency and maintaining a competitive asset base.

The latest deal underscores the Mumbai-headquartered shipping company’s focus on strengthening its tanker operations while capitalizing on favorable market conditions in the global product tanker trade.
