Hapag-Lloyd has revised its European shipping network by removing calls at the Italian ports of La Spezia and Genoa from two of its regional service loops. The adjustment is part of the carrier’s ongoing efforts to optimise network efficiency, improve schedule reliability, and streamline vessel operations amid evolving market conditions.
Under the revised service configuration, vessels operating on the affected loops will bypass the two ports and follow updated rotations designed to reduce transit times and enhance overall operational performance. The changes are intended to minimise delays, improve schedule integrity, and ensure more consistent service across the network.
Customers shipping cargo through La Spezia and Genoa will continue to be served through alternative port calls, feeder connections, or inland transport solutions. Hapag-Lloyd said the revised routing will help maintain cargo flows while offering flexible logistics options for importers and exporters across Italy and the wider European market.
The network adjustment comes as container shipping lines continue to fine-tune service rotations in response to fluctuating cargo demand, port congestion, vessel deployment strategies, and changing trade patterns. Carriers are increasingly focusing on improving operational efficiency while maintaining reliable transit times for customers.
