The Container Freight Stations Association of India (CFSAI) has issued a trade advisory warning stakeholders of significant disruptions in EXIM container movements due to persistent heavy rainfall, flooding, and deteriorating road conditions in and around Mumbai’s port and Container Freight Station (CFS) areas.
According to the advisory issued on July 7, continuous heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds over the past week has led to severe waterlogging, traffic congestion, and damaged road infrastructure on key routes connecting port terminals and CFS facilities. Ongoing road construction near DRT CFS has further worsened traffic bottlenecks, resulting in long queues of trailer trucks.
The association said the adverse conditions have substantially increased trailer turnaround times, delaying the evacuation and delivery of both import and export containers between port terminals and CFSs.
CFSAI stated that its member CFS operators are making every effort to maintain operational continuity and minimise delays. However, it noted that the current disruptions are beyond the control of CFS operators and are primarily caused by adverse weather, traffic congestion, and external infrastructure constraints.
The association clarified that member CFSs cannot be held responsible for delays and any resulting consequences arising from these exceptional circumstances.
CFSAI has urged shipping lines, customs brokers, importers, exporters, transporters, and other stakeholders to take note of the prevailing situation while planning logistics operations and to extend their cooperation until normal conditions are restored.
