HMM is set to expand its Gulf–India–East Africa (GIA) service from a single loop to two dedicated loops starting September 2026, aimed at addressing port congestion and improving schedule reliability.
Under the new service structure, HMM will separate its East Africa coverage into dedicated services for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Mombasa, Kenya, providing customers with more stable and seamless logistics connections between India and East Africa.
The expanded GIA network will operate as follows:
GIA Loop 1: Nhava Sheva, India → Mundra, India → Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
GIA Loop 2: Nhava Sheva, India → Mundra, India → Mombasa, Kenya
The restructuring is also accompanied by the addition of ONE and OOCL as new partners. They will join existing partners COSCO, PIL and Interasia Lines, creating a six-carrier alliance aimed at strengthening the network and offering more competitive shipping options for customers.
By splitting the service into two dedicated loops, the carriers expect to improve operational stability and provide more reliable connections for cargo moving between India and East Africa.
