India and Hamburg have discussed new opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the maritime sector, with a focus on green shipping, sustainable ports and emerging maritime technologies.

On the sidelines of SMM 2026 in Hamburg, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shri Vijay Kumar, along with the Indian delegation, held a bilateral meeting with Dr. Melanie Leonhard, Senator for Economic Affairs, Labour and Innovation, Hamburg.

The discussions centred on advancing the green hydrogen and derivatives ecosystem, promoting green shipping corridors, sustainable port development and deeper collaboration in emerging areas of the maritime industry.

The meeting also explored potential cooperation related to the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal and the Bharat Container Shipping Line.

The engagement comes as India accelerates efforts towards cleaner fuels, green ports and sustainable shipping. The discussions highlighted the significant potential for India–Hamburg collaboration in developing a sustainable, innovative and future-ready maritime ecosystem.
