In a major step to support fruit growers in the Kashmir Valley, Indian Railways has announced the launch of JPP-RCS train services dedicated to transporting perishables—mainly apples—from the Valley to markets across India.
The service will commence on September 13, 2025, with trains running daily on the Budgam–Adarsh Nagar Delhi–Budgam (BDGM–ANDI–BDGM) route. The train from Budgam will depart at 6:15 AM on September 15, 2025, and is scheduled to reach Adarsh Nagar in Delhi by 5:30 AM the following day, ensuring fresh fruit arrives early for market distribution.
The train will operate with 8 Vehicle Parcel Vans (VPs) and 1 SLR, with intermediate loading and unloading facilities at Bari Brahman station (BBMN) in Jammu & Kashmir. Indian Railways has also confirmed its readiness to add more parcel vans or increase the train’s capacity if demand grows.
Only registered JPP-RCS aggregators can avail the service, with registrations open on the online portal www.fois.indianrail.gov.in. For queries, stakeholders can reach the Commercial Department, Baroda House, Northern Railway, New Delhi.
Senior railway authorities, including the Principal Chief Commercial Manager (Northern Railway) and the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jammu, are closely coordinating with the state horticulture department, fruit growers’ associations, and traders to ensure smooth operations.
This marks another milestone for Indian Railways in connecting Kashmir’s industries to the national supply chain. Just last month, on August 9, 2025, the first freight train carrying cement from Punjab reached Anantnag, strengthening the Valley’s logistics connectivity.
The new initiative is expected to provide farmers with a cost-effective, timely, and reliable transportation mode, reducing losses from perishables and ensuring fresher produce reaches consumers across the country.
