Indian spices could receive tariff relief in the US market under a potential trade agreement between India and the United States, offering a boost to exporters and strengthening the competitiveness of Indian spice shipments.

US spice traders and industry stakeholders have been seeking lower or zero-duty access for Indian spices as part of the ongoing trade discussions. They argue that reducing import duties could help lower costs for US buyers and support stable supplies of Indian-origin spices.

India is a major supplier of spices to global markets, with products such as pepper, chilli, cumin, turmeric, cardamom and other processed spices exported to the US. The American market is an important destination for Indian spice exporters.

Tariff concessions could improve the price competitiveness of Indian products against supplies from competing origins. Exporters could also benefit from greater certainty in market access if preferential tariff arrangements are included in a broader trade pact.

For US spice businesses, lower duties on Indian imports could help contain procurement costs and provide access to established Indian supply chains. Indian exporters, meanwhile, would gain an opportunity to expand shipments and strengthen their presence in the US market.

The proposed tariff relief remains subject to the outcome of the wider India–US trade negotiations. Any agreement covering spices could provide an additional boost to India’s agricultural and processed-food exports while deepening bilateral trade ties.
