In a major step towards decarbonising Indian ports, the country’s first fully electric tug is on its way, developed under the Government of India’s Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP).
The pioneering vessel — a 60-ton bollard pull tug — will be deployed at Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla, Gujarat. The project is being spearheaded by a consortium of Netincon Marketing Pvt Ltd and Ripley Shipping Pvt Ltd, both subsidiaries of Ripley Group, a leading logistics, port development, and ship-owning enterprise on India’s east coast.
Technology partners have delivered a fully integrated equipment package, covering propulsion and battery systems, designed to power cleaner, smarter port operations. The tug is being built at Mandovi Drydocks, with Ripley Group placing its trust in the cutting-edge solution for reliability, performance, and alignment with GTTP’s sustainability goals.
This milestone marks a new era for Indian shipping, as ports move towards greener and more energy-efficient operations.
