    Shri Sushil Kumar Lohani, IAS, Chairman, Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), visited the Multi-Modal Terminal (MMT), Varanasi, and chaired a review meeting on the progress of key infrastructure projects being undertaken at the terminal.

    The meeting reviewed the status of several major initiatives, including the Regional Centre of Excellence (RCoE), Ship Repair Facility, rail connectivity to the terminal and the Multi-Modal Logistics Park. The projects are being developed in collaboration with NHLML, Indian Port Rail & Ropeway Corporation Ltd. (IPRCL) and Larsen & Toubro Geostructure.

    The initiatives are aimed at strengthening multimodal connectivity, improving logistics efficiency and facilitating seamless integration between inland waterways, rail and other modes of transport. The projects are also expected to enhance the role of Varanasi as a key inland logistics hub and unlock the potential of waterways as a sustainable and efficient mode of freight transportation.

    The review underscores IWAI’s continued focus on developing modern inland waterway infrastructure and creating an integrated multimodal logistics ecosystem to support more efficient and sustainable movement of cargo.
