Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), in association with Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), successfully organised a Trade Meet in Ludhiana to commemorate the commencement of full-corridor rail operations from Dadri (NCR) to JNPA through the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
The event witnessed participation from key stakeholders across the trade, logistics and transportation sectors, focusing on the transformative role of enhanced rail connectivity in strengthening India’s logistics efficiency and trade competitiveness.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Ravish Kumar Singh, IRTS, Deputy Chairperson of JNPA, highlighted the port’s upgraded rail infrastructure and operational preparedness to seamlessly handle high-volume double-stack container train operations through the WDFC network.
Shri Girish Thomas, Chief General Manager (Traffic), JNPA, delivered a detailed presentation on JNPA’s internal rail infrastructure, including yard facilities, rail tracks and terminal handling lines, showcasing the port’s enhanced multimodal logistics capabilities.
The discussions during the meet emphasized the significant advantages offered by the electrified Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, including faster transit times, improved cost efficiency, operational reliability, sustainability and higher cargo carrying capacity. Stakeholders noted that the dedicated freight corridor is set to further strengthen JNPA’s position as India’s premier container port and a major gateway for global trade.
The initiative is expected to provide a major boost to cargo movement between North India and western ports, improving supply chain efficiency and supporting the growth of EXIM trade through seamless rail connectivity.
