Jupiter Wagons Ltd has secured a ₹97.66-crore order from GATX India Private Ltd for the manufacture and supply of BFNS22.9 rakes, further strengthening its presence in India’s private wagon leasing ecosystem.
Under the agreement, Jupiter Wagons has signed a Wagon Purchase Agreement with GATX India, a subsidiary of US-based GATX Corporation. The order value includes applicable taxes.
The contract is aligned with the Indian Railways’ Wagon Leasing Scheme, which enables private companies such as GATX to lease and operate freight rolling stock on the Indian Railways network. GATX India is a private owner and lessor of freight rail wagons in the country.
Jupiter Wagons said the order adds to its growing business with global wagon leasing companies and reflects increasing demand for specialised freight wagons.
Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, said the agreement strengthens the company’s position in India’s private wagon leasing market and reflects the confidence of global players in its engineering and delivery capabilities. He added that demand for specialised wagons such as the BFNS22.9 is expected to grow as leasing companies expand their presence on the Indian Railways network.
The order further expands Jupiter Wagons’ role as a manufacturing partner for private and international freight wagon operators and supports the company’s strategy of serving India’s evolving rail freight and logistics sector.
